Leadership Framework Based On Frugal Innovation: An Examination Of South African Organizations
Abstract
In April 2016, South Africa’s high court declared that president Jacob Zuma should face 783 counts of alleged corruption, fraud and racketeering. In the subsequent political turmoil, the finance minister was charged with breaking public finance rules by granting a colleague early retirement. This sent the local currency and share prices reeling. Bloomberg data claimed that more than $2 billion was wiped off the index. Considering the tough political and economic environment combined with the corruption of government officials it is believed that a shift towards improved ethics and efficientcy could elevate the country to a better performance level. Frugal innovation is the ability to do more with less. Frugal principles promote long term strategic change towards the effective utilization of resources. The contemplated research attempts to synthesise knowledge and experience to formulate a pragmatic leadership solution based on frugal innovation.
