Value of Medicines: An Investigation of Incorporation of Patient Input into Payer Decisions in the U.S.
Abstract
In the United States (U.S.), payers often adopt austerity measures to regulate the access to new costly innovative medicines as a function of their perception of short-term budget impact and not necessarily the true overall value those innovative drugs may bring forth, and this is irrespective of the perception of value their customers (i.e., patients with unmet need) hold concerning those medicines. This sometimes introduces access barriers to patents in need.
