Information Technology, Operational Excellence and Better Decision-Making in The Mining Industry: A Case Study of Large-Scale, Open-Pit Mining Requirements

2019 Thesis/Dissertation Sustainability

Abstract

To understand the critical factors that affect large-scale open-pit mining in terms of Information Technology, Operational Excellence and Decision-Making. A conceptual model was created with four important observations for LSOPM operations: use of information technologies is critical, productivity is inversely proportional to cost, decision-making processes need to be efficient, and six key organizational efficiencies in terms of equipment, manpower, performance, process, time, and production were determined as part of the requirement for LSOPM operations. The research is concerned with open-pit mining of all minerals except fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas.
