Recommendations for Expediting the Implementation of the Common Market Protocol in the East African Community

2021 Thesis/Dissertation

Abstract

The East African Community (EAC) ratified the Common Market Protocol (CMP) in 2010 with the goal of increasing intra-regional trade by allowing the free movement of factors of production, such as capital, people, goods, and services. The objective of the CMP is to give EAC citizens the right to reside and to establish themselves or their business ventures anywhere within the region’s boundaries. However, the EAC member states are yet to fully embrace the protocol despite the anticipated benefits.
