Multilateral Negotiations: The Contextual Characteristics Of The Negotiating Structure Of The Governing Body Of The International Labour Organization
Abstract
The institutional structure that facilitate the negotiations among the representatives of governments, workers and employers is at the core of the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) tripartite model. The negotiation structure of Governing Body (GB) of the International Labour Office has changed shape and form since its establishment of the organisation in 1919. However, very little is known about the underlying forces behind the changes. It is against this backdrop that the research explored, using the qualitative method, the contextual characteristics of the negotiation structure of the GB of the International Labour Office. The exploration was enhanced by a triangulated research methodology, which consisted of literature review, content analysis and open-ended interviews.
